Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes, this robot hoover and mop vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot mop which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums that mop vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
