Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade item gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade items discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade item their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
